This website is a marvelous creation of the members of our Community of Practice (CoP) project entitled “Building Learning Community through a Transdisciplinary Multi-layered Approach”. It is a 3-year project funded by the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) Strategic Development Fund and undertaken by Faculty of Social Sciences. The project aims at infusing academic and professional knowledge into community practice as well as creating a necessary synergy for providing best opportunities contributing to society. The project is unique in that it consists of an intergenerational learning community involving HKBU students, staff, professionals, secondary school students and older adults in the community. Going through a process of exploration, inquiry, learning and identification of community needs and establishing common interest, this learning community shared a wealth of knowledge, skills, values and attitudes through a series of activities promoting healthy living within our community. The project touches on each of HKBU’s seven graduate attributes and thus facilitates student personal and professional growth.

Reflection is a significant process of the development of our project. By reflecting on our experiences, we can bring about changes and hopefully improvements to our practices. This website is a vivid compilation of our CoP members’ reflections on their experiences. I hope that this sharing inspires more people to join our community and learn through giving and sharing.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all members of our CoP for their invaluable contribution to the project. Special thanks are extended to our collaborative bodies, namely Kowloon City Baptist Church Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, H.K.S.K.H. Lok Man Alice Kwok Integrated Service Centre, and Lee Kau Yan Memorial School. Without their high dedication, commitment and strong desire to learn, to give and to bring about improvements, we would not arrive to where we are.
